Despite a 20% value-added tax, you'll probably find that souvenirs, admission prices, food and drink, and all forms of transport (including taxis) are cheap.

Cash is easily changed at numerous small exchange offices, usually for no commission. Travellers' cheques are more of a hassle as not every bank will accept them, but still you’ll find enough places to cash them for a commission of around 5%. Cash advances on credit cards might also be a bit of a problem, but ATMs are a common sight around the city.

Waiters and taxi-drivers expect the bill to be rounded up to the nearest convenient figure. With non-metered taxis you needn't add a tip to the fare you agreed on beforehand.

SURVIVAL

Emergency numbers:

Police: 166

Traffic Police: 165

Ambulance: 150

Fire: 160

Speed Limits:
a speed limit of 40 km/h applies in every village or town unless otherwise indicated.
Traffic Lights:
You may take an amber light to mean that you should get ready to stop. Here, many drivers see amber as a challenge, accelerating in a bid to cross over before the lights change. Take care, then, when pulling up at a traffic light: the driver behind you might not intend stopping
Taxi:
Go for cabs with a clear indication that they belong to a recognized company, such as “OK TAXI” or “TOP TAXI”, beware of “independents”, they will cost you a fortune.
