Church Dormition of The Mother of God

Description: The Church of the Assumption of Mary is one of the major attractions of Helena, a unique monument of architecture and art from the Renaissance. Right in the churchyard of St. Nicholas.
It was built in the old chapel from the initiative of the rich people of Helena.
Construction began in 1836 and was completed in 1838. It is built entirely of stone, using the material of the fortress destroyed.
With its impressive size (33 m long, 21 meters wide, 25 meters high) and striking architecture. The temple is one of the most significant representatives of the building of the church during the Renaissance. It is the largest in northern Bulgaria.
The construction was made by the master Gorni Miho Bolertsi. The whole building has a solid construction and material handling, artistic execution of the details.
It consists of the nave of the church, the narthex and the upper gallery. The three naves are separated by two rows of four round columns thin. The average boat is twice as wide side. There is also a separate building where the bell tower, built in 1912.
